The Perth Hills Wine Region stretches along the
Darling Scarp from Chittering to Serpentine and came of age in April 1999
when given official status as a gazetted wine region. It has already gained
reputation as a producer of premium wines in Western Australia.
Viticulture has been carried on in the picturesque
Perth Hills for more than a century. The first vineyard was planted in
Darlington in the 1880s followed by Glen Hardey Winery in the Glen Forrest
in 1896.
The regions elevation, up to 400 meters above sea
level provides climatic conditions for the production of intensely flavoured
grapes for premium wines.
The vineyards comprising the Perth Hills Region
produce traditional grapes varieties and the newer Zindfandel, Durif,
Malbe, Tempranillo and Viognier to name a few.
The region is renowned for its stunning scenery and
offers visitors a range of premium wines complimented by exceptional food.
